I have started the process of writing out some of my more popular crochet hats, i.e. newsboys.
It is quite the process, and I want to be sure that I have no mistakes in them, and also, that they are readable with the proper wording.
Here are picture of some of the hats I am writing patterns for.

Here is my collection of skull and cross bones crochet beanie hats. This picture is for the small size, which fit from 18-20 inches in circumference. Light weight acrylic yarn to prevent bulkiness. Washable.
I love to crochet so I will be crocheting to display the larger sizes of this style of hat.

I have been wondering what crochet pattern to post next. I make all of my hats out of my head, I never know what the hat is going to look like until I am finished.

I want to start writing down all of my fresh ideas, I just wish it didn't take so darn long to put pattern to paper.

But if there is any ideas what pattern I should post next, let me know.

Adult Crochet Newsboy hat
This is a fun and stylish unisex newsboy style hat, perfect for any season.

Measurements:
This hat with the suggested yarn and hook size will fit adult size. 20-22 inches in circumference.

Level of skill:
Intermediate

Materials:
100-140g chunky weight yarn (thicker than worsted weight) - gauge 12st = 4 inches
If at all possible have two skeins of yarn available, or enough of one skein, due to the brim of the hat is worked in double strands of yarn.
Crochet hook - I9 (5.5mm)
Darning needle

Stitches used:
Slip stitch - slip st
Single crochet - sc
Double crochet - dc
Front post double crochet - Fpdc = YO, insert hook from front to back around post of stitch indicated, YO and pull up a loop (three loops on hook), “YO and draw through two loops on hook” - twice.
Decrease double crochet - dec dc = YO insert hook in stitch indicated , YO and pull up a loop through stitch, YO and draw through 2 of the loops, YO and insert hook in next dc, YO and draw up loop, YO and pull through two of the loops, (three loops on hook now). “YO and pull through two loops”, twice.
Decrease single crochet - dec sc = YO insert hook in stitch indicated, YO and draw up loop, insert hook in next stitch indicated, YO and draw up loop, YO and pull through all three loops on hook.

Directions in parentheses ““are part of the pattern to be repeated when instructed.

Chain 4
Row 1: 11 dc in fourth ch from hook. Join in top of chain three with slip st. (12 stitches)

Row 2: chain 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout pattern), “2 dc in next dc” repeat 9 more times, dc in slip st, join (24 stitches)

Row 3: chain 3, dc in next dc Fpdc around same dc last worked (increased one), “dc in next 2 dc, Fpdc around same dc last worked”. Repeat 10 more times around, join. (36 stitches)

Row 17: chain 1, sc in same chain 1 stitch, sc in next 18 sc, (Hat Brim to follow) attach another strand of the same yarn, working with double strand sc in next sc, “2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc“ repeat 6 more times, slip st into next sc. *Chain 1, turn*. Slip st in next sc, chain 1, sc in next 3 sc, sc and dc in next sc, dc in next 10 sc, dc and sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, slip st in next 2 sc (one of the sc will be on the single stranded crochet) chain 1, turn. Slip st in first slip st of previous row, chain 1, sc in next 5 sc, sc and dc in next dc, dc in next 10 dc, dc and sc in next dc, sc in next 4 sc, sc in next slip st, (*There will be a portion of the brim that is not from a stitch from previous rows, it is the back loop of the chain 1, turn portion of the brim.) Slip st in that loop and in the next single strand sc. Drop one of the strands of yarn and sc the rest of the hat, join. End yarn or…

Optional:
Last row: chain 1 and slip st all around the hat loosely (brim included), join. (I find this helps to keep the hat from over stretching and losing its shape.) End yarn.

Weave in all loose ends.

The bonus to this pattern…….
Leave the brim out of the pattern, just end it on row 16 and you have a great looking beret hat.

I encourage you to experiment with this pattern, if there is something you want to add, like another color. Then do it. If you think of another kind of stitch should be used, then use it. It’s like cooking, follow the recipe once and after that, one changes it to make it their own.

I love to crochet newsboy style hats. Here are some of my creations that have done well for me in my online selling sites. The light brown slouchy newsboy is available as a pattern, for others to make for themselves.

I also enjoy experimenting with beads, be-dazzler and charms to add character to the hats.
